Food in KC:
Fric & Frac

My last restaurant review focused on a restaurant on 39th Street, and I have to say that that area is the mother-load for good restaurants. One of my favorite such establishments is Fric & Frac, one of those special bar/restaurant hybrids that is a true "pub." With good food for less than ten dollars, good drinks, a wide variety of specials and the opportunity to shoot pool while waiting for your food, it is a consistently good place to spend one's time. The menu has an assortment of pub food, ranging from nachos, french fries, hamburgers and Philly Cheese Steaks to steaks and salads. The vegetarian options are not as good as the other choices, but it is possible to scrounge up something good to eat, though it is priced like bar food--people primarily go there to drink, not to eat.
They play a wide variety of good music, they've got a big screen TV that plays sporting events and the back room has arcade games and pinball in addition to the aforementioned pool. While it might get a little uncomfortable for those who don't smoke, that's to be expected of any bar in Kansas City. For those who prefer cleaner air, outside seating is available when the weather is warmer.
Considering that it's not that hard to get to, the food is good and the price for an evening there is reasonable considering how enjoyable it can be, Fric & Frac rates rather high on my scale. I heartily encourage everyone to give it a try as soon as possible.
- 4/5 stars.
