In what this reporter hopes to become a regular feature in the Sentinel, here are some kudos and some boos being handed out to people, places and things around Rockhurst in a column I like to call: Pat on the Back, Kick in the Pants.

First off, pat on the back to the Sentinel's very own Sean Adams. Recently Sean came into the possession of a replica WWE John Cena spinning championship belt. I know, I know. I was so excited I nearly wet myself, too. Sean then decided to share the belt via a friendly competition known simply as "The Belt." Sean's fellow 3rd floor Corcoran members now have the opportunity to nominate themselves or anyone else for actions they feel are "belt worthy." Each week a new winner is selected from the veritable plethora of nominations. Sean's idea has really taken off and is helping to build a stronger community among the residents of Corcoran's 3rd floor.

The first kick in the pants goes to Rockhurst's snow day policy, or lack thereof. I realize that Rockhurst is a fairly small campus with a majority of students living on or near that campus. This is the main reason it will likely never shut down completely for weather, seeing as how it hasn't in the last two decades. However, it is my opinion that one of the best feelings in the world is when you go to bed while it's snowing, wake up real early and turn on the television, radio or computer, and you hear that your school has cancelled classes and you can then go back to bed. Sleep just feels so much better during school hours. I guess you could take a page from some students' books and decide Rockhurst high school is close enough, climb back into bed and go back to sleep anyways.

A pat on the back to Sodexho for their romantic Valentine's Day getaway. For the guy who really knows how to treat a lady, he could've taken her to the always lovely Thomas More dining room and dined on Mediterranean chicken, pasta fantastica and delicious gourmet cheesecake. To top the evening off, guys could've snuggled up with their gals for the cupcake eating contest. Nothing says "I love you" like watching grown men gorge themselves with dime-a-dozen, store bought cupcakes.

Another pat on the back to the Rockhurst University men's basketball team. The Hawks won three of four games in their most recent home stand to improve their record to 14-9 with a conference mark of 8-7. One of those three wins was against Southern Illinois Edwardsville, a team that is considering making the switch to Division I. Great job boys and finish the season strong!
