Food, giveaways, and of course music will be the main features of Rockstock 2007. Rockstock is a week of fun designed to give students a chance to relax before exam week raises its ugly head. This year's week-long festival, which will stretch from April 23-28, will culminate Saturday night when alternative rockers Sister Hazel perform on Lower Bourke. In a bit of a twist from past Rockstocks, this year's festivities will begin in the evening. Organizers anticipate more students will be alert and ready to rock by 6 pm, which is when gates will open. As always, Rockstock is free of charge to Rockhurst students.

Sister Hazel will headline Rockstock, which will also feature several local bands. An alternative band blending blues, folk, and southern rock, Sister Hazel trace their origins to 1993 when Ken Block, Jett Beres, and Andrew Copeland formed a band in Gainesville, Florida. Eventually, Ryan Newell and Mark Trojanowski joined the group. It was not until 1997 when Sister Hazel grabbed the spotlight with the song "All for You" from their second album, …Somewhere More Familiar, reaching #11 and #47, respectively, on the Billboard Charts. The album has since gone platinum and stands as their best-selling album to date. From there, Sister Hazel went on to release an additional four albums, including their most recent album Absolutely from 2006, which reached #86 on Billboard 200 and can be heard on the jukebox in the Pub. Notable singles from Sister Hazel include "Change Your Mind", "Champagne High", and "Mandolin Moon."

Rockstock will be preceded by Hawkwild Week. This year's events will, for the most part, mirror those seen last year. They will include paintball, two nights of Battle of the Bands, and a scavenger hunt resulting in great prizes. There will be a few changes, including a new design for the official shirts, which will be for sale throughout the week. The different colored cups will return as well but with a possible twist. Mumblings say those able to collect each day's cup will receive a chance for a meet-and-greet with the bands at Saturday's Rockstock. Stay tuned to SAB for more details concerning that as well as additional information concerning Hawkwild Week and Rockstock.
