The men's basketball team ended their season with a 78-84 loss in the opening round of the NCAA Division II tournament to Southern Indiana in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Findlay, Ohio on March 10th. Prior to their loss to Southern Indiana the Hawks lost to Northern Kentucky 61-71 in the 1st round of the GLVC tournament on March 1st, but they won their final regular season game of the year at home against Southern Indiana 75-63 on February 22nd. The men's team finished the season 17-12 while the Women's team finished 9-18. The men were led by sophomore guard Aaron Hill with 13.2 ppg and 47% 3pt shooting and junior center John Torson who had 12.8 ppg, 6.7 rpg, and 71 blocks. The women were led by senior center Courtney Farmer's 13.5 ppg.
The baseball team continued its solid play taking a weekend series March 31st and April 1st 2 games to 1. The baseball Hawks were blanked in the 1st game 0-6, but won the 2nd 2-0 behind the arms of sophomores Ryan Morgan and Frank Allen on March 31st. Rockhurst took the final game of the series on April 1st 9-7 led by 2nd baseman Chad Hatcher with 3 RBI. The series win gives the Hawks a 14-16 record overall, 7-10 in GLVC play.
The softball team split a series in Quincy on March 31st winning 4-3 before losing 0-5. Right fielder Holly Hilton was the star of the win with 2 RBI as Heather Robertson pitched the lady Hawks to a win giving up 1 earned run in 7 innings. The team is 7-11 on the year, 2-6 in GLVC play.
In other sports the men's golf team finished 9th in the Central Oklahoma Kickingbird Classic on March 26th and 27th, while the women's team finished 4th in the Missouri Western Invitational on March 25th and 26th. Meanwhile the men's tennis team lost 0-9 at NW MO St. on March 28th before winning 5-4 in an exhibition at Johnson County CC. They are 4-5 on the year. The women's tennis team (8-1) continued to roll with a 6-3 win over MO Southern on March 29th.
In "non-official Rockhurst sports"-sports news, the Rockhurst hockey team finished out their season March 27th with a tough 2-3 playoff loss to the "Johnny's." After finishing out the regular season 5-4-1 with all of their losses except one being by just one goal, the team defeated the top team in the league the "Sparties" in the opening round of the playoffs before falling to the "Johnnies." Freshman goalie Alex Primo had this to say: "Overall we had a good season, especially with it being our first season. I look forward to next year when we'll have everyone back." Also the Rockhurst Lacrosse team lost their first game of the year on April 1st, but put in a solid effort in the loss.
