On the morning of April 21st 26 Rockhurst students embarked on the 1st annual Rockhurst 5k which was sponsored by the Rockhurst Running Club, and they ran on to achieve outstanding times on the hilly course, a sense of self-satisfaction and achievement and also to support wounded veterans of the wars in Iraq in Afghanistan. All the funds raised by the race went to Wounded Warrior Project, an organization enlist the public aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members to aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

Our fleet footed runners posted superb times on the difficult course which looped Rockhurst twice. For many of the runners it was their first road race while others were race veterans. Nevertheless on that Saturday both individual and veteran welfare obstacles were conquered so lets us join together in congratulating the finishers.

If you want to begin running or just need some great people to run with contact the Rockhurst Running Club by emailing either Karla Jarecke at jareckek@rockhurst.edu and or Ben Perkins at perkinsb@rockhurst.edu. The Rockhurst Running Club is also sponsoring runners in the Kansas City ½ and Full Marathon on October 20th, 2007 contact the persons listed above if interested. The Rockhurst Running Club also had a team in the 2007 Brew to Brew: 44 miles from Kansas City to Lawrence and runners Allison Rank, Reid Vilbig, Sean Kimbrell, David Scott, Kristin King and Karla Jarecke placed 29th out of 274 teams! Once again do not forget to congratulate the finishers of both races and also to get out and run!
