After last year's inaugural season, the Rockhurst ice hockey team is looking forward to another exciting second season. The team is hoping to recruit more new Rockhurst students to play the greatest game on earth.
So if you sport a mullet, finish your sentences with "eh?" or just plain love hockey, this club is for you. The team plays in a local men's league, and hopefully, the program can grow to become an "official" school sport in the future. So if Kansas City's lack of hockey is slowly killing you already, contact Tim Dowling (dowlingt@rockhurst.edu) or Adam Adrignola (adrignolaa@rockhurst.edu).
Last year, the Rockhurst team finished the season with a winning record, despite other teams getting the occasional "house team" officiating that the Detroit Red Wings have grown accustomed to over the years. In the playoffs, the team went 1-1, but they will be back with a vengeance this fall. The team's offensive prowess makes the Buffalo Sabres look like a curling team and their defensive depth makes the Anaheim Mighty Ducks look like District 5. The team members were happy with the success of their first season and hope they can continue their winning ways.
This year, the team will be sporting new jerseys, which will be so sweet that they will surely outsell Sidney Crosby jerseys once they hit the market. The Rockhurst hockey team may not play on Versus or in the Sprint Center (yet), but they'll hit the rink at the Kansas City Ice Sports Complex in October. Of course, fans are always welcome to the games, so be on the lookout for game times and directions to the rink.
