Jesuit campuses across the country are showing their support for diversity with gay-straight alliances. UNITY is such a group at Rockhurst University. The group, which is housed in Campus Ministry, was created by three students in the fall of 2005.
Addressing the topic of sexual orientation and related issues in a supportive and educational manner is the group's main goal. UNITY provides an environment where all individuals, especially those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered and their allies may gather to embrace diversity and accept difference. The National Day of Silence is sponsored by UNITY on the Rockhurst campus, as well as other outreach programs.
This fall we are looking forward to holding a movie screening and hosting World AIDS Day bingo. If you would like more information, please contact Sierra at gradys@rockhurst.edu or come to our first meeting on August 28th at the Campus Ministry house.
