Homecoming week is upon us and many old traditions accompany its arrival as well as some new twists that ensure this Homecoming will be a special one.
This year's theme for Homecoming is Mardi Gras and will culminate in a Mardi Gras themed dance at Bartle Hall this Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. Throughout this week there will be a number of Mardi Gras themed events.
Here is a rundown of events:
Saturday, September 23rd - There will be a Homecoming Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church
Monday, September 24th - Hypnotist Jim Wand will be performing in the Convocation Center at 9:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 25th - The women's volleyball team takes on Southwest Baptist University at 7:00 p.m. in the Mason-Halpin Field house.
Wednesday, September 26th - $3 movie night will be at Cinemark on the Plaza.
Thursday, September 27th - A carnival will be held on the Kinerk Commons (quad) from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. A dunk tank will be set up at the carnival with a number of student body leaders taking their turn getting dunked. The cost to try and soak a fellow student is $1, with all the proceeds going to Hurricane Katrina relief.
Friday, September 28th - Rockhurst Day! The action kicks off Friday with a golf cart parade route in and around campus. The golf carts decorated by campus organizations will be awarded a prize for the most creative design. Throughout the evening there will be carnival games and attractions, concessions, and a beer garden. New or gently used clotehs as well as non-perishable items may be brought to Rockhurst Day and will be donated to the St. Francis Social Ministries. Also on Rockhurst Day, the campus' oldest fraternity, Alpha Delta Gamma, will be celebrating its 75th anniversary. Both the men's women's soccer teams are in action Friday night, taking on Kentucky Wesleyan, with the women's game kicking off at 5:00 p.m., and the men's to follow at 7:30 p.m. The women's volleyball team will also be playing at 7:00 p.m. against Wisconsin Parkside in the Mason-Halpin Field house.
