The past month has not been kind on the Rockhurst Men's basketball team. They had a five-game losing skid from Jan. 14 to Jan. 26. After losing 51-78 at Missouri Western to begin the skid, they came home and lost a tough one 73-76 to Park. Then they dropped three straight on the road in late January: to Drury 69-74, to Indianapolis 52-63, and then to St. Joseph's 59-83. The Hawks seem to have turned it around upon coming home to the familiar confines of the Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse as they beat up on Saint Mary 81-44 on Jan. 28. Junior Drew Martin led the team in the win scoring 17 points and adding 8 rebounds. However, the team dropped the next two games at home 71-77 to Kentucky Wesleyan on Jan. 31 and 60-61 to Southern Indiana on Feb. 2. The team's overall record now stands at 7-12 and 3-8 in GLVC play.
Meanwhile the women's team has been up and down as well. They went 2-2 on a recent road trip. They started it off by beating Lincoln on Jan. 16, then dropped two straight at Drury 63-83 on Jan. 19 and at Indianapolis 59-62 on Jan. 24.
However, they finished off the trip strong by knocking off Saint Joseph's 73-34 on Jan. 26. Ali Fromm led the team with 18 points against Saint Joseph's, knocking down three 3-pointers. The team then lost at home to Kentucky Wesleyan 56-90 on Jan. 31, before knocking off Southern Indiana 61-56 on Feb. 2 as Amy Hake scored 23 points. The women's record is also currently 7-12, but only 2-9 in GLVC.
The baseball team began their season by playing in the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. on Feb. 1 and 3. The boys dropped their first game to Minnesota-Duluth 0-1, which featured a one-hit performace by junior pitcher Ryan Morgan. In the afternoon the Hawks came back to win 6-5 as Tyler Rzepka homered, and Frank Allen picked up the win in relief. Building on that win, they bested St. Cloud State in both of their games on Feb. 3, posting a tight 6-5 victory before a 9-0 bowout
